2012-06-22 – Wet night in the Market
Aspect Ratio: 3:2
Wet Night in the Market features Fa Yuen Street Market. One of many street markets found around Hong Kong. In the summer nothing clears the streets fast than a sudden downpour. The umbrella is very much part of standard kit in Hong Kong and used all year to provide shade from the sun as well as keeping the rain of ones head.
Hong Kong street markets are a fascinating part of traditional Hong Kong that even as they build new and taller modern buildings the street market makes pedestrian friendly bustling streets a unique part of the city.
The most famous street market for tourists would be the Ladies Market in Mong Kok. This market is assembled each morning, except Chinese New Year, and dissembled around 10pm. It’s also a street causing disappointment for those looking for early bird tokens of Hong Kong. The market does not get fully operational until after lunch.
There are other markets scattered all around town. Some known as wet markets that sell fresh and often food still alive such as fish and chickens to name a few species. The best street market in my opinion is the Mong Kok market but understand this market is not overly receptive to tourists and especially tripods as it’s very busy and not a circus show so please respect. There are lots of other great markets in most communities so walk the streets of Hong Kong and enjoy the hidden secrets.
