2015-12-11 – Hong Kong Victoria Harbour From Ferry
Hong Kong Victoria Harbour From Ferry
Taken while crossing from Kowloon City to North Point on ferry looking westward. Taken on a morning with exceptionally clear skies and still the glow colours from sunrise.
Hong Kong is the world capital of skyscrapers with the latest number being far greater than the next city. There are 7,792 (2015) high-rise buildings, with no fewer than 1,268 skyscrapers (2015) standing taller than 100 m (328 ft) and at least 308 buildings over 150 m (492 ft) in height. One can easily lose count trying to count the cranes adding to the totals. For a look back at the history of this skyline one can read more here.
Queen Victoria might have had her statue moved to Victoria Park as her importance has been downgraded but her name lives on around the city. The mountain peak in the rear is Victoria Peak. (Chinese: 太平山, or previously Chinese: 扯旗山) is a mountain in the western half of Hong Kong Island. It is also known as Mount Austin, and locally as The Peak. With an altitude of 552 m (1,811 ft), it is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island, ranked 31 in terms of altitude in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
The summit is occupied by a radio telecommunications facility and is closed to the public. However, the surrounding area of public parks and ultra expensive residences is the area that is normally meant by the name The Peak. It is a major tourist attraction that offers views over Central, Victoria Harbour, Lamma Island and the surrounding islands.
