Hong Kong Three Lions
Dragon dance is an important part of celebrations in Hong Kong. This ranges from the most important dates on the calendar such as Chinese New Year and Buddha’s birthday. Today it’s not unusual to see them blessing a new store opening or at a wedding. They can be bought onto construction sites at different points of construction to bring fortune and good luck.
As I post this on New Years day 2016 I’m about to head out to some local events that will be a nightmare for those who are still feeling the drunken effects of last night as the drums and symbols will be out in full force supporting the dragons as they perform a dance that’s based on martial arts. During the new years one never knows where one will see the dances but raised colour flags usually go up a few weeks before the performance with little other forewarning. There are usually lion dance events weekly in Kowloon Park on the weekends.
