Hong Kong Lightning at Daybreak
Hong Kong lightning at daybreak is one of those pictures that pushes ones cameras abilities. Math sometimes becomes a factor when the quantity of light gets greater than the camera by default can handle.
Chasing storms and trying to get the best of nature at its most extreme might seem a bit strange when one first thinks about Hong Kong. In Spring and Summer season we get an abundance of perfect conditions for storms. We have the type that are local and then regional ones. The local map on the Hong Kong Observatory weather web-site and mobile app will look like a dart board hundreds of people are playing on at the same times. Storms can last all night long and it’s not unusual for the thunderstorm warning to stay up for days on end. Now the next challenge is keeping the camera lens and body dry while trying to work out where the best strikes will be, that in itself can be like a dog chasing its tail. The real challenges moving forward are always to get better framing and more strike captures regardless of the conditions, day or night.
