Hong Kong Epic Autumn Fog

Reading books of Hong Kong fog and low clouds have always been noted.   The way the skies can drop and the effects of the mountains and surrounding waters effect the air can by dynamic and absolutely stunning to say the least.  One never knows when they will occur as coastal fog is very unpredictable as you can see from my collection of fog pictures.

The foggy weather in Hong Kong is often caused by a humid maritime airstream affecting the south China coastal areas, visibility off shore can go down to less than 500 metres in the morning or at night.  These occurrences can happen more often in the spring but the following image comes from a blue moon occurrence of fall fog.

Shooting images in very humid conditions can be a challenge.  Ensuring there is no condensation of both the lens and camera mirror is important.  Shooting at a low f-stop can cause sensor dirt to show more than ever as you will have large areas of white in the image.  Then there is white balance that will be very challenging so shooting in anything other than RAW will disappoint.  Post processing is also one of the harder types as it’s one that in old terms needs a fair amount of push and pulling.
